125+ Years of Catholic Education

St. Anne's School celebrated its 125th year of offering a quality Catholic based education to students in Le Sueur, MN and surrounding areas in 2007.

The river valley was first settled in 1852. Benedictine Fathers of the Catholic missions served the Catholic families occasionally. By the early 1880s the parish had 25 families. They built their first school, which opened in September 1882 under the direction of the Sisters of Notre Dame.

In 1902 the Sisters of St. Joseph took over the direction of St. Anne's School. The parish grew rapidly, and in 1907 an addition was added to the school. In the 1950's the school was becoming crowded and outdated, so the parish bought property on North Fourth Street and built a new and larger school with a gymnasium. It was opened for classes in September 1957 for students in grades one through eight.

The Sisters of St. Joseph left St. Anne's in 1971, but the parish kept the school operating with lay teachers teaching grades one through four. In 1974 5th grade was added, with 6th grade coming the following year. Full day Kindergarten was added in 1995.
