Letters From Mrs. Adams
October 8, 2009
Dear Parents,
One month of school already done and conferences just around the corner! I wonder where the time goes?! Here is a review of what we have been doing and what is coming up.
In Math, we are in our second chapter which deals with addition and subtraction of whole numbers and decimals. Throughout this chapter, we have learned how to round and estimate sums and differences with whole numbers and decimals, problem solving, addition properties, and mental math.
In Reading, we are finishing up our theme on Natural Disasters. Each theme has a genre that they focus on at the end of the theme and our genre was Tall Tales. We read tall tales about Paul Bunyan, John Henry, Sally Ann Thunder Ann Whirlwind, and February. The students really enjoyed reading the exaggerated tales.
In English, we are finishing up our unit on grammar. Our last few lessons with deal with combining sentences using both compound subjects and predicates, and combining compound sentences. We plan on taking a test next week.
In Religion, we just finished up a chapter on !low the Church is a Sacrament of God's life. Our new chapter is on living the Beatitudes. Also, next week, we will be leading the school at Mass.
In Social Studies, we finished up our first chapter about the early Americans. In our current chapter we are reading about the Indians of North America. We have learned about the different Native Americans and where they lived.
The following two Tuesdays, we will be taking the Stanford 10 tests on the computer. We will test both reading and math. Please make sure your child is well rested and eats a good breakfast.
Reminders: Monday and Tuesday, we have conferences. We have scheduled 15 minutes so please make sure you are on time. Also, please notice that you will need to provide a ride on Oct. 14 if your child uses the bus. There will be no school on Oct. 15-16 due to MEA.
Have a great weekend,
Sarah Adams
