Letters From Mrs. Adams
September 19, 2008
Dear Parents,
It's time for another parent letter, I look at the calendar and can hardly believe it is the 19th of September and the Marathon is right around the corner. Here is a brief overview of what we have been doing.
In Math, we just took a test on our first chapter. In this chapter we learned about place value of whole numbers and decimals, problem solving using the guess and check method and the four step plan, and how to compare and order whole numbers and decimals. Our next chapter will deal with addition and subtraction of whole numbers and decimals. Please continue to work on basic math facts at home.
In Religion, we have been learning about the seven sacraments. We also learned about creation and how we need to respect all of God's creations. At our first school Mass, the students did a wonderful job.
In Reading, we just finished our second story The Eye of the Storm in our theme Natural Disasters. We read about weather chasers and how they know where storms
are and how they track them. In this story, we saw some amazing pictures of thunderstorms and tornadoes. Our next story Volcanoes.
In English we are learning about complete and simple subjects and predicates. We have also learned the four different types of sentences. We will be learning about subjects in imperative sentences and conjunctions. Each day we also do Daily Oral Language (DOL). DOL is sentences that have mistakes in them and the students make the proper corrections.
Please make sure your child is going out and getting pledges for the Marathon. I also need permission slips turned in for the Marathon as soon as possible. Please mark your calendars for October 3, which is the big day!
So far we have had 3 great weeks of school. I am amazed at how wonderful this class is. It makes coming to work so much fun. Thanks for all you do for your child.
Have a great weekend,
Sarah Adams
