Letters From Mrs. Adams
October 3, 2008
Dear Parents,
Another two weeks have flown by and it is time for another parent letter. We have been very busy with our Learnia testing in reading this week and preparing for the Marathon. Here is a review of our last two weeks and a reminder of things coming up.
In Math, we finished up our second chapter which dealt with addition and subtraction of whole numbers and decimals. We also learned about estimating numbers. In our next chapter we will be multiplying whole numbers. Please continue to work on basic math facts at home, it makes it much easier for the students and myself.
In Religion, we have the awesome opportunity on October 7, to head up to the Cathedral and History Center to take part in the Rosary Pilgrimage and Vatican Splendors. I hope the kids will be as excited for this opportunity as I am!
In Reading, this week we learned about Tall Tales. It was fun to read the tall tale stories about Paul Bunyan and John Henry We also took our first Learnia test which checks the reading skills of the students. Our next theme will be Give It All You've Got.
We just finished with our first unit in English which dealt with what a good sentence includes. Our new unit deals with nouns which includes singular/plural nouns and common/proper nouns.
Conferences are just around the corner, if you haven't signed up yet, please do so. The dates are Monday, October 13 from 3:20-6:40 and Tuesday, October 14 from 3:20-5:00. There will be no school from October 15-October 19. Also on Wednesday, October 8 we have a 2 hour late start.
Next Friday, October 10 is Grandparent/Special Friend Day. Hopefully everyone has sent out their invitations and will have someone special there to help celebrate they day. I know it is always a fun time and the kids and Mrs. Miller have put a lot of work into making it successful.
Have a great weekend,
