Letters From Mrs. Adams

November 14, 2008

Dear Parents,

We are a few weeks away from the end of the first trimester. I cannot believe how quickly the time has gone by. We have been very busy here lately, and with Thanksgiving and Christmas fast approaching, I can hardly imagine how quick the next 6 weeks will go.

In Math, we are finishing up our chapter on dividing whole numbers. In this chapter, we learned about division patterns, estimating quotients, dividing by one and two digit numbers, interpreting remainders, and problem solving skills. We will be taking a test next week so make sure your child knows their division math facts. Our next chapter will deal with algebraic expressions.

In Reading, we are continuing with our theme Give It All You've Got. We finished Mae Jemison:Space Explorer this week. We learned about Mae and how she was the first African-American in space. This theme focuses on setting high goals and how perseverance pays off. I hope they are getting that message!

In English, we are learning about verbs. We have learned about action verbs, direct objects, helping verbs and linking verbs, the tenses of verbs, and subject-verb agreement.

In Religion, we finished up our first unit which was The Sacraments: God's Gift of Life. We learned about the sacraments of creation, living the beatitudes, and sacramentals, prayers, and devotions. In our next unit, we will learn about Baptism and Confirmation. We also are in charge of Mass next Tuesday so feel free to join us.

As I said earlier, the end of the trimester is fast approaching (Nov. 26) Please have your child correct anything that is under 80% if they feel like it. It definitely does help their grades. Please mark on your calendars that there will be no school Nov. 27-28 and Dec. 1.

Thanks again for all you do for your child.

Have a great weekend,
Sarah Adams
