Letters From Mrs. Wolf and Mrs. Segna
November 7, 2008
This Week's News from First Grade
Highlights from this week:
*In recognition of Election Day, we practiced filling out our own ballots (What's your favorite season?) and then had our own Presidential Election. We experienced a tie between Senators McCain and Obama!
*In reading, we've been discussing the difference between fiction (fantasy) and non-fiction (true-to-life).
*We continue to practice the short vowel sounds, with the "short e" sound this week.
*We always discuss "Father's Message" after Mass; this week, we learned about accepting other's faults, rather than being too critical. Good Advice!
*We very much enjoyed our school Thanksgiving feast—many of us having a "clean plate"! The first graders led the school in an after-meal prayer.
*We are practicing our finger skills by paper weaving autumn leaves. *We attended the "Mundo Hispanico" assembly at Park School on Friday.
Thank you for. . . .
*. .assisting your child with their studies at home, reading together, making sure your child comes to school well-rested with heathy snacks. . . .etc. etc. etc.!
Congratulations!
Joy Park was voted by her classmates to be our "Peacemaker of the Month", by her efforts to "Build Peace". We appreciate so much how Joy uses polite words and shows positive study skills in our classrooms. Thank you, Joy!
Congratulations to the following first graders who have correctly recited their address and phone numbers to our class: Matthew, Timothy, Justin, and Morgan. They received a certificate and have their name posted on our classroom wall. We hope to add more students to the list next week. Keep practicing!
Notes for Next Week:
*Our weather is getting colder! Please make sure your child is dressed warmly for outdoor play. Thank You!
*Mrs. Segna will be gone on Monday; Mrs. Wolf will be with us all day.
*First Graders will be leading our school Mass on Tuesday; parents are welcome to join us!
*Wednesday will be a two-hour late start.
*We have studied the life cylcle of a pumpkin (seed-leaves-vine-flower-fruit) and will next concentrate on a brief study of seeds. We will tie this in with our Minnesota harvest season (apples, pumpkins, corn, soybeans). First graders are welcome to bring in any fruits and vegetables so that we may examine their seeds!
Ask Your Child About. . .
*Who will be our new United States President?
*What does it mean to have "empathy"? (Our character trait for November). *What Thanksgiving food do you like best?
*What country shared their songs and dances at the "Mundo Hispanico" program?
