Letters From Mrs. Grieves

Friday, September 12
Dear Parents,
I would like to share what we've been doing during our first full week of fourth grade.
Reading
We have started our first theme entitled, "Journeys". Through our stories, we'll travel by train, plane, ship, and this past week by dogsled!
Spelling
Spelling words correlate to each story. You should see a list at home each Monday and final tests will be taken on Fridays.
English
We've started Unit 1 "The Sentence". We will discuss the four types of sentences, the basic parts of a sentence, combine short sentences into longer ones, and correct run on sentences.
Math
The first chapter in our new series is on Place Value. Go to Math Online to find extra examples to coach you through difficult problem, work with a personal tutor, and/or take a self check quiz!
The address is macmillanmh.com
Science
It's all about apples! We're learning facts about apples, the life cycle of an apple tree, and parts of an apple flower. We'll be doing some taste testing and making applesauce as well! Remember, Applefest is September 20 and 21. I hope to see you there!
Religion
In chapter one, we're thanking God for the gift of life and all the wonders of creation. The fourth grade class will be in charge of 10:30 mass next Tuesday. We'd love for you to come and worship with us!
As you can see, we're off to a great start! If at anytime along the way you have questions or comments, please call me or write a note in your child's assignment notebook and I'll get back to you.
Have a great weekend,
Mary Grieves
