Letters From Mrs. Grieves

Tuesday, October 21
Dear Parents,
Thank you for attending conferences last week. It was nice to see each one of you! Remember that St. Anne's is now on a trimester schedule. The grades that I shared with you are not final, they represent how your child is doing so far. Our first trimester ends the day before Thanksgiving.
Did you notice our decorated pumpkins when you were here? Each student had their picture taken with their pumpkin and the book that inspired their creation. These pictures will be shown this fall on our local station, CATV, channels 7 and 8. I told them they were now all "TV stars!" They may be taken home on Friday.
We've begun the second theme in our reading series titled, "American Stories". Our first story, Tomas and the Library Lady, has gotten us excited about learning a few spanish words and wondering what "Pan Dulce" tastes like! If anyone of you is interested in helping with either of these things, please let me know.
Did you hear about our new computers? Stop in and check them out!
This Friday, students will be taking three tests. They will have their usual reading and spelling tests which correlate to this story, but they will also have an English test on nouns.
We continue to work through chapter 3 in math. As I explained in conferences, this is the first year we are learning from this series. We have no previous knowledge to go on so each day is a new challenge for us. Next year will be much better for them.
I've begun reading Charlotte's Web to the class. Along with this, we will be learning about spiders in science. This is always a creepy favorite!
For social studies, I will be using a program I ordered through Modern Woodman entitled, "Our Great Democracy". I felt this was perfect for us to learn more about our states and our great country!
On a different note, the LSH Giant football team has their first playoff game tonight. Please send all good vibes their way at 7 PM. Go Giants!
