Letters From Mrs. Grieves

Wednesday, November 12
Dear Parents,
We've recently finished Charlotte's Web and our unit on spiders. Now I've started reading Little House in the Big Woods and we're learning about Laura Ingalls Wilder.
Each year, fourth grade students have created "Little Houses" with their families to be displayed at our Christmas programs. Time is spent in school deciding how each cabin could be designed, but the actual construction is done at home. This activity is not a competition, therefore they are not graded. Rather, this project is meant to be fun, quality time spent with your child, not a stresser!
The houses may be made out of anything you'd like. In the past, we've had simple cardboard box houses, houses made out of pretzels, pencils, and even pipe! Sticks, stones, and dowels have also been popular choices.
The houses may be on a base to hold trees, etc., or they may be free standing. Either way, please keep them about the size of a shoe box.
These "Little Houses" will be on display during both Christmas programs. For this reason, I ask that your houses be completed by Friday, December 5. I believe we will be setting up the display over that weekend.
Starting today, you have three full weeks to complete your house. They should be taken home after our final performance, 7 pm, Tuesday, December 9.
Please write or call with any questions.
Don't forget to have fun!
Mary Grieves
