Dear Kindergarten Parents:

Well, we made it through our first week! What a fun group of kindergarteners this is – I am truly looking forward to spending a school year getting to know them! Here is a look at the upcoming week:

  • Reading and Language Arts: We will continue to practice writing our letters and singing our ABCs. We will (very briefly) practice writing letters G-P – we covered A-F during our first week of school. Throughout the school year, we will be devote an entire week to each of the consonants, when we will learn about the sound that they make, as well as practice writing them. The vowels will be integrated into our study of the consonants. I will let you know each week what letters we will be working on.
  • Math: During this past week, we have done activities that briefly introduced the students to what we will be covering during this school year. Next week, we will finish the introduction, and then we will begin our regular lessons. Our first chapter is about comparing and sorting objects. We will learn what the words “alike” and “different” mean.
  • Religion: We will finish our discussion of God’s gifts, and we will begin talking about how God created the world. We will end the week with a Gospel Weekly article. I usually end the week with this article. It discusses the liturgy for the mass on the following Sunday. We will be attending mass on Tuesday.
  • Science: We will spend several weeks talking about our five senses. We will learn about our eyes this week. We will be using magnifying glasses to explore things in our room.
  • Social Studies: We will talk about our homes and discuss what a family is (and the many different forms that families come in).

Other Thoughts:

  • Please remember to sign the “A Week’s Worth of Work” sheet!
  • I’m so happy that you have been remembering to return the take home folders! Thank you so much for your support and cooperation!
  • I just wanted to let you know about a typo in our school calendar. It says that there is no school for kindergarteners on Thursday, March 5 th. Kindergarten Visiting Day is actually on Friday, March 6 th. So there will be school on March 5 th, and no school for kindergarteners on March 6 th. That’s just an advanced warning – I will remind you again when that time rolls around.
  • I sent home a weekly progress report about your child’s behavior for the week. I will send one home each week so that you can be aware of how your child has been doing at school. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to contact me!
  • Remember that uniforms will be required starting on Monday!
  • Just a reminder that there is a two-hour late start on Wednesday. Students do not need to bring a snack on that day, since we usually have snack at about 9:15.

This has been such a great first week of school! Please let me know if you have any questions or concerns about your child! Have a great weekend!

Sincerely,

Miss May
