Dear Kindergarten Parents:

Here is a look at the week ahead:

  • Reading and Language Arts: We are beginning our second theme of our reading series, Colors All Around. I am excited about starting this unit, because it is the beginning of really learning how to read! We will begin with the letter S. You will notice that we do not go through the alphabet in order. The order that we will use is such that we begin with what reading experts consider to be the easier letters. These letters often make a sound that is similar to their name. Each week, we will have an Alphafriend that will help us to remember the letter. The Alphafriends all have songs that go along with them, which I will send home to you at the beginning of the week. It’s wonderful if you ask your children to sing the song to/with you – all the practice really helps them to connect the sound with the letter. Our Alphafriend for this week will be Sammy Seal. Look for his song in the take-home folders on Monday. The other exciting part of this week is that we will learn our first sight word, I. We will put it up on our Word Wall on Tuesday.
  • Math: We will continue with our chapter on the numbers 0-5. This week, we will focus more on the numbers 4, 5, and 0.
  • Religion: In religion this week, we will discuss how God made and loves all people. We will be attending mass. As we do each week, we will spend some time reading the Bible, and learning about saints.
  • Science: We will be discussing our senses. We will try to determine what an object is without using our eyes.

    Other Thoughts:
  • On Wednesday, we will be attending a lyceum at Park Elementary School about Character Traits. It runs from 9:45 – 10:45.
  • Please help your children to get their pledges for the marathon! The marathon is on Friday, October 3rd - that’s next Friday! Please remember to send in your child’s permission slip.
  • Remember, students may wear the themed clothes for marathon week this upcoming week.
  • Please remember to hand out invitations for grandparents/special friends day. It means so much to the students to have someone at school for them on that day.
  • Thank you for remembering to return your child’s take-home folder each day!
Thanks for all you do! Enjoy your weekend!

Sincerely,

Miss May
