Dear Kindergarten Parents:

Hello to all of you! It seems like winter is officially upon us! This will be our last full week before Thanksgiving. Here is a look at what we will be doing:

  • Reading and Language Arts: We are beginning a new unit in our reading series, Friends Together. Our new letter will be H, and our Alphafriend will be Hattie Horse. Look for her lyrics to come home on Monday. We are starting something very exciting this upcoming week! I will introduce the students to our first vowel, A. We will be studying the short A sound (as in hat, cat, can, etc.). We will learn to read and write words with it. The Alphafriend for A is Andy Apple. We will not learn about Andy Apple until Wednesday, so his lyrics will come home then. It’s so exciting to begin this part of reading, because it’s when the students are finally able to learn to blend words together!
  • Math: This will be our final week studying numbers through 10. We will study ordinal numbers (1st, 2nd, 3rd, etc.) on Tuesday, and take our chapter test on Wednesday. On Thursday, we will begin a brief chapter on graphs.
  • Religion: We will be attending church on Tuesday. We will learn about the friends that God has given us. Toward the end of the week, we will read a Gospel Weekly article. On Friday, we are having a mission speaker come to our school.
  • Social Studies: Again, we will be talking about maps! We will learn more about how to read maps, and identify features based on the pictures.
Other Thoughts:
  • Thank you so much for returning the permission slips for the website! I will let you know when I put pictures up!
  • I am sending home everyone’s rest rugs today. Please wash them (if possible) and put them in the new bag found in your child’s folder. You can toss the old one! Please return the rest rug on Monday. (I will try to send them home throughout the year to be cleaned!)
  • Thank you for helping your child to remember to wear appropriate winter clothing for recess!
  • For Show and Tell next Friday, your child may tell about what he or she is thankful for. If your child wants to bring something to show the class, that would be fine. Otherwise, please help your child think of something to be thankful for.
Thanks so much for all of your help and support. Enjoy your weekend!

Sincerely,
Miss May
