A Flying Shoe Epidemic
The most important part of a physical education class at St. Anne's is MOVEMENT. Children in our society do not have the opportunities that were present in years past to MOVE. Obesity and diabetes are now common in children. So, at St. Anne's in physical education we MOVE!
The second most important part of a physical education class at St. Anne's is SAFETY. We're MOVING but always with SAFETY in mind.
Unfortunately current shoe trends are making it difficult to get the children MOVING
and to be SAFE. Shoes, such as slip ons, or skateboard style shoes with the lacing pattern that is difficult to tighten (i.e. Vans, DC, Audio, Airwalks), or ones with zippers instead of laces are DANGEROUS to children in physical education class. The shoes flop off as they try to run or come flying off as they kick (feel free to ask me about my own personal account of a near dislocated jaw from a large airborne shoe . . . they become missiles). Some of the children compensate for their ill fitting shoes by not running or running with an odd gait just to keep the shoes on, neither of which allows the children to MOVE properly.
Please make sure that your child has at least 1 pair of tie shoes (Velcro is a second choice) at school that they can use for physical education class.
Thank you. Thank you.
Let's KEEP MOVING!
