2008 Physical Education at St. Anne’s
This may be St. Anne’s ELEMENTARY School, but what the students learn here will be the lessons that will carry them through a lifetime. If the lessons they learn in physical education class at St. Anne’s last a lifetime, it will hopefully be a long and healthy lifetime. Who knows, someday, maybe, the St. Anne’s students will even create a Blue Zone.
Throughout the world, communities with extraordinarily high populations of centenarians have been identified and marked as Blue Zones. Living to be 100 years or more is not the most amazing aspect here. What stands out even more than age in these Blue Zones is the high quality of health these centenarians enjoy. Research is finding that these communities, although miles and miles and sometimes oceans apart from each other share some common elements of lifestyle. Surprise, surprise that diet and exercise play the largest role in creating a Blue Zone.
God has blessed the St. Anne’s students with marvelous bodies. My job, as the St. Anne’s physical education teacher, is to teach the students how to take care of those bodies for a long, healthy lifetime. It is your job, as the parent, to create an environment at home that encourages the healthy lifestyles that the students learn about in the classroom. That’s the St. Anne’s Blue Zone.
