Letters From Miss Justen
Dear Families,
This is your last parent letter for the year. Thank you for taking the time to read them each week and for all of the support you have offered!
We are winding up our unit on Peru. Thank you to Tom Rabaey who took the time to come in and share what he has learned on his visits to Peru. We have been so blessed to have had two speakers to share with us!
We have a good start on our prayer basket, but can still use any donations you are able to give. Some examples of what we have already received include: a book of prayer meditations, a candle, notepaper, inspirational music, and crosses. Thank you for what you have already donated, it is greatly appeciated.
As we near summer vacation, please remember that learning doesn't just take place in the classroom. Please keep up the reading and practicing the math facts throughout the summer. Keeping up with their skills will help them to be ready for third grade in the fall. Of course, the experiential learning opportunities are also very valuable.
A look at the next three weeks:
Reading
This week we are reading a fiction piece about showing school pride. Skills for this week focus primarily on working with adjectives. Next week they will be reading a nonfiction story, as well as a fiction one. We will also be reviewing previously taught skills.
Spelling
This week for spelling we are focusing on words that have a long vowel sound and either the -ing ending, or the -ed ending. Next week's spelling words will be the last list for this school year. It will be a review of the words from the last few weeks.
Math
We will be finishing our chapter on multiplication by the end of the school year. Whatever time we have left will be spent on adding hundreds. Feel free to work on completing your child's math book over the summer. When you have a little down time, quiz them on their basic facts, give them a real-world math problem, etc.
Religion
We've been learning about the set-up of the altar and the articles used at Mass. They enjoy getting the opportunity to set up the altar and compare the one at church to the one they are using to learn.
Health/Science
Before the year is up, we will touch upon one last Science unit. The children will explore the topic of matter.
May God bless your families,
April Justen
