Letters From Mrs. Segna and Ms. Justen

March 16, 2010

Dear Families,

I’m overjoyed that the temperatures have been climbing and the sun has been making an appearance. As the melt continues, and the spring rains come, we are encountering wet clothes. In particular, I have complaints of wet socks. It would be helpful if you could send an extra pair or two of socks to school with your child. Thank you!

Our field trip to the zoo is next Friday. I had many people graciously offer to chaperone. Unfortunately, due to the number of free chaperones we are limited to, I can only take two free chaperones. If you volunteered and would still like to come, I will be sending home an information sheet. Please look it over and let me know if you are still interested.

A look at the next two weeks:

Reading
This week we will be learning about present tense verbs and quickly touching upon subject-verb agreement. Next week’s skills include: making judgments, past tense verbs, and the prefix ‘un.’

Spelling
Spelling words this week are contractions. Next week’s words end with the long e sound. Please note that due to the field trip next week, the spelling test will be on Thursday instead of Friday.

Religion
We’ve reviewed some of what we’ve learned so far and are continuing to prepare for or review the Eucharist.

Math
We are working on fractions right now. When we complete this chapter we will be reviewing place value, which is where we began our year.

Social Studies
The students are finishing up on their family trees. We will be working with a timeline, reading about inventors and their inventions and continuing with map skills.

May God bless you,

April Justen
