Playground and Gophers
Mrs. Wavrin has a concern. Her concern is the holes gophers are making on our playground. Mrs. Wavrin has been doing research and trying to find a way to eliminate “naturally” the number of gophers on our playground. Also as part of her research she has spoken with nature lovers, Art and Barb Straub asking them for their recommendation. She has also solicited the help of city worker “Greg”. Last Friday, Mrs. Wavrin brought the school on board and shared the concern/problem with the teachers and students by asking Mr. and Mrs. Straub to speak to the student body. The Straubs did a presentation on animals, birds and owls. Mrs. Wavrin and Mr. and Mrs. Straub also shared their idea. Their idea is to have the city put a telephone pole up at the edge of our school property with an owl nesting box on top. They are hoping to attract owls that will prey upon the gophers and eliminate “naturally” the number of gophers that we have on our playground. The elimination of gophers will decrease the number of gopher holes! The children’s job is to watch for owls.
Halloween
The students may be out of uniform tomorrow. They may wear Halloween-themed clothing, orange and black clothing, jogging suits – attire for the community center. Halloween parties will be at the discretion of each teacher.
Community Center
Please remember that students need permission slips to go to the Community Center tomorrow, no slip ~ no Community Center. Please send either suits/towels or ice skates tomorrow for the choice that your child has chosen. We will be walking to the Community Center. Please pray for good weather and safe times.
Sincere thanks to our parent volunteers!
Principal Morgan Goettlicher
St. Anne’s had a new face in the school office this past Tuesday! It belonged to Morgan from grade1! Morgan made a lot of contacts prior to our school marathon and had the most number of pledges thus earning the privilege of being Principal! Morgan asked the teachers/staff to wear dresses,skirts/jumpers. She allowed the students to chew gum with the stipulation of wrapping it in paper when done chewing and disposing of it properly into the wastebasket and also asked the teachers not to assign homework for Tuesday evening! She arrived at 7:30 A.M. and began her day at 7:35 by praying with the teachers. At 7:45 she visited with Mr. Buchtel and discovered that we had a problem with a leaky water heater. She greeted the students at the door at 7:50 and did the morning announcements at 8:10. She spoke with Mrs. Rasmusen after announcements and learned that she had a press conference with the News Herald at 9:00 A.M. She signed, presented certificates and served the September ‘Respect’ Peacemakers cactus bread and juice. She met with the plumber to discuss solutions and times to fix the leaky water heater. She answered questions from various teachers, listened to their concerns and worked out solutions with them. She met with students to problem solve some issues that they were having. She also made a friendly visit to each teacher with a glass of juice and piece of cactus bread for a late morning snack. She made a call to Father George to see how he was feeling and also gave him the message that he and Principal Segna would be serving Mrs. Powers and the 3rd graders their formal luncheon on Friday, Nov. 7th. She decorated the teachers’ lunch table and ate with them! She also presented Mrs. Miller a gift bag during lunchtime on behalf of the student body for the great work that she did with Grandparents/Special Guest day. Miss Goetllicher rang the bell in the cafeteria during lunch time and asked the students to keep the noise level down. In the afternoon she participated in a music class and helped to teach religion, math, and handwriting, to the 1st graders! She helped pack the 1st grade folders, met with each first grader to review their afternoon and guided them in filling out their planners! Whew, it was a busy day for Principal Morgan!
Weighing of the Waste
As part of our Wellness Policy each student has been scraping their own waste from their tray into their class bin. After lunch, one student from each class under the guidance of their teacher and classmates weigh their class waste and graph it. We are teaching the children the importance of reducing waste, eat what you take, and learning how to make and read a graph. This is an activity that Eagle Bluff has the students do on their conservation visit.
